Advanced Level Supporting Teaching & Learning in PE & School Sport

Start: September 2018
Hours: 30 hrs/week Mon–Sun (will involve weekends and evenings)
Pay: £3.70/hour (national apprentice wage)
Contract: 1 year


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Trainee club gymnastics coach
    This will involve setting up equipment, assisting club coaches in running gymnastics sessions, taking registers, dealing with queries from parents, basic cleaning alongside being given training and mentoring from the team. This will mainly be weekday evenings and Saturday mornings.

  • Training, courses, competition experience and gymnastic club visits
    The club will support our Apprentices to gain British Gymnastics (BG) qualifications in gymnastics coaching, alongside other skills such as first aid and safeguarding children. Apprentices will have the opportunity to help at local and regional competitions and to visit other local clubs to learn more about how gymnastics clubs run. This is mainly weekend work.

  • Self-directed learning and planning
    This will involve planning sessions for gymnasts, administration of the gymnastics club and self-led research into methods of teaching and gymnastics techniques (with support from the team).

  • Future opportunities
    Post-Apprenticeship, there will be an opportunity to gain long term employment at the club, joining the staff structure and clear progression routes.



Our client is seeking somebody that can demonstrate:

  • Excellent  communication skills – oral and written
  • A strong interest in working with young people
  • An interest in sport, dance, movement (ideally a background in gymnastics - but not essential)
  • An ability to self-reflect 
  • Good organisational skills
  • An Interest in self-directed learning and research
  • Reliability
  • Ability to do a physically active job
  • Outstanding team work and a fun personality
  • Willingness to travel to locations around Oxfordshire
  • Flexibility of working hours (inc. evenings and weekends)



Desirable skills/qualifications:

  • First Aid qualification  
  • Child Safeguarding qualification
  • Previous experience in working with children or sports coaching
